Mercer Thompson LLC was founded in June 2009 by John Mercer and Chip Thompson. Prior to establishing the new firm, Mr. Mercer was a partner at Troutman Sanders LLP for over thirty years, where he served as the long-time Head of that firm’s Project Development and Finance Practice Group. Mr. Thompson was also an established partner at the same firm, where he led their International Practice Group for over eight years, and served clients on major energy-industry transactions in over fifteen different countries. Desiring to create a team-oriented enterprise that would focus maximum attention on serving clients in the electric power industry, Messrs. Mercer and Thompson combined their high-level leadership experience and shared commitment to unwavering client service to launch Mercer Thompson.
Joining John and Chip to launch the new enterprise were two exceptionally talented attorneys, John Lamberski and Jason Yost. Also partners at the prior firm, both have spent their entire careers focused on representing clients in complex transactions in the electric power industry. Mr. Lamberski has over 25 years of experience leading a number of varied and complex transactions for large energy companies, including major M&A transactions, multiple PPA arrangements and one of the first nuclear facility EPC Agreements to be signed in thirty years. Mr. Yost also has significant experience in the areas of electric power project development, finance and M&A. This experience includes representing clients on multiple complex international transactions, as well as large M&A transactions.
The Mercer Thompson team is supported by a cadre of well-trained and experienced senior attorneys and professionals who provide a key role in supporting clients’ transactions on a cost-efficient basis.
The Firm’s expertise includes corporate and capital markets finance, project finance and development, Department of Energy loan guarantees for qualifying energy projects, mergers, sales, acquisitions and joint ventures of power projects. Within the electric power industry, their experience includes representing clients in connection with clean technology and renewable energy projects, as well as nuclear energy, conventional fossil-fuel, and transmission projects.
